10 reasons Why In Times Like These, You Need a Black Woman Who Is a Disciple of Christ as your U.S. Representative

By Masika Akilah Ray, for U.S. Congress – Texas District 1

East Texas, we are living in a time when freedom, dignity, and justice are under attack. You deserve a representative who understands your struggles, lives by faith, and fights with courage.

You did not elect a qualified white woman like former Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, or a qualified black + woman like former Vice President, Kamala Harris, for President. Now, I ask you to consider giving me a chance to be your U.S. Congress Representative, a black + woman + Disciple of Christ with experience in fighting for rights under attack. I aim to help us thrive in this moment. I am intentionally practicing humility, serving as a disciple of Christ. Regardless of your affiliation or beliefs, I am here to love my neighbor and serve to the best of my ability from within, and that will benefit you!

Here are 10 reasons why I am ready to serve you and deliver real solutions:

1. A Legacy of Civil Rights Education

My father and Father taught me from a young age about the fight for civil rights. My earthly father was awarded first place in an essay competition on civil rights by President Lyndon B. Johnson and Jesse Jackson. I will carry these lessons of treating people fairly, the way I want to be treated, into every decision I make and every policy I support.

I will work to protect voting rights, restore fair access to the ballot, and stop modern-day voter suppression, as women and blacks fought so hard to possess the right to vote.

2. A Survivor Who Understands the System

I survived a nervous breakdown, false accusations, police brutality, CPS injustice, and 10 days in jail — yet I stood up, represented myself, and won.I will fight to reform the criminal justice system to uphold due process, hold abusive law enforcement accountable, and protect families from CPS overreach by bringing attention to this matter nationally and globally. In 2023, I founded My Children Are Not Your Toys, doing just that. I asked God to enlarge my territory to fight this cry and more.

3. Fighting at the Highest Level

On September 29, 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court WILL HEAR MY CASE — a testimony of God’s grace and my refusal to back down.I will bring that same boldness to Congress to protect civil rights and all rights, defend due process, and restore faith in justice.

4. Protecting Women’s Healthcare

I had an ablation due to excess blood flow. Republicans' fight against abortions will go further and target ablation procedures, birth control, and other essential care next.

I will work to keep politics out of the doctor’s office and ensure women and families make their own healthcare decisions.

5. Standing Up for Feminine and ALL Health and Privacy

Women’s health should never be politicized. Every woman deserves dignity, privacy, and access to the care she needs.I will advocate for expanded access to affordable healthcare, reestablish Planned Parenthood, and protections for medical privacy.

6. Exposing the Truth About the Ten Commandments Bill

Republicans want the Ten Commandments in classrooms, but this is not about faith — it is about control. The Bible is clear: “The just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11, and Hebrews 10:38). Read all references, as each one scaffolds deeper reasons why the Ten Commandments should NOT be in schools. They want laws without grace, leading us toward oppression, not freedom.I will fight to protect religious freedom, keep government out of the church, and stop policies designed to limit faith and liberty—something for everyone.

7. Preparing for Economic and Food Insecurity

A famine is coming faster because of manufactured policies and corporate greed. Republicans have made decisions that hurt working families and small farmers.

I will work to expand food security programs, support East Texas farmers, and lower grocery costs by pushing back against corporate monopolies.

8. Serving in True Humility

I am running to please God, not man. As a Disciple of Christ, I understand servant leadership and the weight of representing all people under my umbrella. My door will stay open to every voice in East Texas — regardless of race, class, party, or background.

9. Protecting Families and Communities

Our families deserve safety, dignity, and opportunity. Right now, policies are hurting our kids, seniors, veterans, and working parents.I will fight for better schools, eliminate the voucher system, ensure affordable housing, promote fair wages, and expand access to mental health care.

10. Fighting for Freedom With Faith

Freedom is not free, and we cannot afford to sit back and lose the rights our ancestors fought for. God calls us to stand firm, speak truth, and fight injustice.I will lead a movement to restore justice, protect freedom, and bring faith back into leadership with integrity.

***Fighting the fight for our rights is nothing new for Black women. Do you want a candidate with firsthand experience of discrimination, injustice, and being marginalized, who has had to rise from within to fight in faith for justice? Or do you prefer the status quo candidate, like Nathaniel Moran, lacking passion, zeal, or the knowledge of how to recover and rebuild from adversity? You choose.
