Handling Betrayal on the Campaign Trail with Faith

On this campaign trail, I’ve faced betrayal and backstabbing, even from those who claim to be on the same side. As a Christian, I know the temptation is to fight in the flesh, to call names, or to expose every deception. But the Spirit reminded me — this is not a flesh fight, it’s a spiritual fight.

Jesus knew Judas would betray Him, but He didn’t lash out. He made it clear that He was aware of the deception (John 13:21-27). Instead of focusing on the betrayal, Jesus focused on the mission God had given Him. That teaches us an important lesson: we don’t have to let betrayal define us — we let God’s purpose guide us.

When I felt the sting of betrayal, I prayed and went to God’s Word. I remembered Galatians 6:9, which says, “Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” I also remembered Romans 12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

So, I choose humility over pride. I choose prayer over revenge. I choose to let God fight for me. That’s why my campaign stands on Humility in Strength. Because true strength isn’t about tearing others down, it’s about rising above, trusting God’s plan, and continuing to fight for justice, dignity, and peace for East Texas.

No matter what my enemies do, I will pray for them, bless them, and keep moving forward. My fight is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). And I know my victory comes through Christ.

Many Blessings,

Masika Akilah Ray, Candidate for U.S. Congress, Texas District One
